We started in Austin's Third division with the right foot, defeating Cameron Road United 4-2... We scored the first goal and went to half time 1-0, but they scored two quick goals and were ahead 2-1 early in the second half. We were able to pull it off though. Novotny, Jerónimo, Papa and Dave Fuller scored for us. -------- TITLE: AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 12:27:00 AM ----- BODY: It's time to restart this blog thing. I'm back to trying my luck with Blogger.com. -------- TITLE: Not much activity here AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 7/10/2003 3:39:00 PM ----- BODY: Man... I haven't posted anything to this website in months... The problem is I was writing all the PHP from scratch, had a small system up and running but I got sick of enhancing it, I'm too busy with work. I need to get a good blogging system, then I'll start all over with this website. -------- TITLE: Busy Sunday AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 4/28/2003 9:18:00 AM ----- BODY: Very busy day yesterday,
8 AM: Last game of the Austin Soccer City League, at SEMP (30 minutes drive). We won and took the championship.
11 AM: About 7 people came over for lunch and to watch...
12 PM: Monterrey VS Guadalajara (at Jalisco stadium). Score: 1-1.
2 PM: Clean the apartment. Specially that kitchen floor. Wow.
5 PM: Cirque Du Soleil, it was a great show.
8 PM: Dinner at El Dorado, by the lake.

Now I need another weekend. -------- TITLE: NI Eagles Fall 2003 Champions! AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 4/27/2003 10:39:00 PM ----- BODY: A 5-2 win over FC-02 Austin this morning places NI Eagles on top of the League. We lost 3 important players to injuries (Mota, Ross, Diego), but still pulled the win.
This is great! We're moving up a division. Good job team. -------- TITLE: The mistery of the matzah balls AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 4/25/2003 9:12:00 AM ----- BODY: Twice on the past week I made matzah ball soup. Used the same little mix that vomes from the little box, same brand, same amount of eggs and so on. The first time, the matzah balls came out big and fluffy. The second time, they came out small and hard. I have no preference for either type, yet no one seems to be able to predict when nor tell why sometimes they come out one way or the other. This is one of the last great misteries in the world, right up there with the Loch Ness Monster. If I had a way for you to provide feedback in this poor excuse for a blog OR if I had any readers, I could ask you to provide some insight. But I can't. -------- TITLE: Colorful week of Passover AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 4/22/2003 9:46:00 AM ----- BODY: It's been 6 days of Passover. I'm sick and tired, all I've been eating is beige. matzah, matzah ball soup, gefilte fish, chicken, tuna, coconut macaroons, mashed potatoes.... you name it. I want beans. -------- TITLE: Canned farts AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 4/16/2003 11:19:00 PM ----- BODY: Credit for this invention goes to Mr. Robert Thurman. Using a can of Office Duster 3 (For precision cleaning of hard-to-reach areas on computers and electronics office equipment) and your arm pit, you can create fantastic fart noises. Excellent ice-breaker for those tough job interviews or meet-your-in-laws dinners. Cracks me up everytime. I have been experimenting creating different pitches by using your arm, leg and stomach (the flabbier, the deeper the sound)
Warning: Please note that shaking the can, holding it upside-down or overuse may cause frostbite. Keep away from eyes and out of reach of children. -------- TITLE: Pearl Jam AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 4/07/2003 8:28:00 PM ----- BODY: Last Saturday I went to the Pearl Jam concert in San Antonio. It was kind of a random last-minute thing. Alex Schwarz drove from Monterrey to Austin on Friday, called me about, told me about the concert and we bought the tickets. Good concert, even though I'm not a big Pearl Jam fan. Next show: Cirque Du Soleil -------- TITLE: NI Eagles climbs back to top of the league! AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 4/06/2003 3:13:00 PM ----- BODY: This morning, the NI Eagles (my soccer team) played the former leader of the season. We completely demolished them by an outrageous 7-0 (not a single one of them mine :( ...). Great! one more game and unless we screw up big time, we'll climb up to the next division. -------- TITLE: Liberte, Fraternite, Egalite AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 3/23/2003 7:22:00 PM ----- BODY: Yesterday, a sad, terrible, deplorable thing happened in Paris.
In the middle of a manifestation against the war in Iraq, in which you could see hundreds of people wearing keffiah (traditional arab head-wear) and carrying Iraqi and Palestinian flags, two counselors in the jewish zionist youth movement Hashomer Hatzar happened to walk by. One of them 25, the other 18, were first insulted by the crowd, then phisycally attacked. They ended in the hospital.
During this whole thing, you could hear insults against jews. - it translates: "Us muslims, us the Arabs, can walk around on the streets with our heads high. Them (the Jews) are forced to hide. A verse from the Coran says: Those who inflicted upon us, you can inflict on them the same. But patience is a virtua. We must know to wait. The wheel will turn" (excuse any errors on this translation).
After this, the members of Hashomer had to go to the place where they carry out their activities and lock themselves inside, while outside many people went out of the path of the manifestation to yell, hit on the doors and terrorize them. There were about 150 kids inside, between the ages of 6 and 15 most of them, about thirty in their early twenties or less.
I am myself a member of Hashomer and went as a kid and as a counselor in Mexico for about 12 years of my life. What happened in France is shameful, a true showing of violent antisemitism. The saddest part, is the weak covergae by the French and world media and the apathy shown by the French government on the face of such event inside their own society.
Shana Fleszler is a counselor in Hashomer Hatzair Paris, and a personal friend. She told me about what happened over there (she was in the middle of the whole thing, of course). My disbelief is incredible. I post this humble words as a show of support for the people of Hashomer and for those that were personally attacked. Refuah shlema (health) to them. I hope I can help to raise consciousness in any way.

Last, I'd like to briefly sum up the ideology of the Hashomer Hatzair movement. This is an educational movement, started in Poland in 1917. It is a left wing movement which that founded over 85 kibbutzim and is one of the strongest advocates of dialogue with the Palestinians and the formation of a viable Palestinian state through territorial concessions.

-------- TITLE: Molotov is in the house AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 3/15/2003 1:31:00 AM ----- BODY: Last night, as part of the South by Southwest music festival, I went to a concert in The Vibe in 6th street
Two bands from Monterrey, México played, Panda (not so good) and Jumbo (very good). Then the Peruvian band Libido played.
The main event of the night was the band of chilangos Molotov. I was very impressed how they rotated the instruments, and you could tell they are far better that the other bands right away just by listening to them for five minutes. There was slam, ripped clothes, blood, the whole thing. The played some of their hits and some of their new songs (Frijolero, Queremos Pastel, Dance and Dense Denso) but to my dissapointment there was no Chang¸ich a la Chichona. -------- TITLE: Cerati in Monterrey AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 3/07/2003 10:13:00 AM ----- BODY: Last night, Gustavo Cerati, former lead singer of the greatest latin rock band ever Soda Stereo had his concert in the Escena discotheque, in Monterrey, Mexico for his latest album Siempre es Hoy. Unfortunately, I could not go. Here's hoping that he will come to Austin, Houston, Dallas, or anything within reach. -------- TITLE: Happy birthday Moi AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 3/06/2003 11:59:00 PM ----- BODY: See his blog. -------- TITLE: ROBOCATEPETL coming back? AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 3/05/2003 9:48:00 AM ----- BODY: Warning: The following post is based entirely upon rumors and speculation
It has been recently heard that Team ROBOCATEPETL, famous for their ROBOCATEPETL 3 ball sorting robot (second place at NI-TECH 2002), has been in talks about creating a ROBOCATEPETL 4 for the NI-TECH Robolab tournament to be held later this year. Confirmation will follow. -------- TITLE: The Pianist AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 3/02/2003 1:08:00 PM ----- BODY: Last night I saw the movie "The Pianist". Very hard movie about a Holocaust survivor. A must see. -------- TITLE: Nice weather AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 2/25/2003 9:02:00 AM ----- BODY: On Sunday, we were playing freesbee in Zilker park, wearing shorts and t-shirts. On Monday (yesterday), it took us 2 hours to drive from the University of Texas (where our bi-annual company meeting is held) back to the NI Campus in north Austin, due to an incredible hail storm, and low temperatures that caused the streets to get covered with ice. Add to that the very effective shortcuts that Andrés took, and you can be stuck in traffic for a long time. The fact that I had to go to the restroom and that I was sitting in the back seat of a Camaro just made the ride so much more enjoyable. Ussually, such ride takes about fifteen minutes. Well, it seems like it's still freezing out, road conditions are bad, and the office is still closed, if at least for a few hours until road coditions improve. -------- TITLE: Marcos.Kirsch.com.mx is online! AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 9:02:00 AM ----- BODY: This is the first time that http://Marcos.Kirsch.com.mx hits the web. The placeholder page that was here instead of this one is now gone. The links will be restored here soon though. Please note that this website is based off my brother's website. They still look exactly like each other. That will change soon I promess. The biggest change in the code, besides reorganization, is the use of a file-based blog engine instead of the original MySQL blog engine. I have rushed to upload this today so the website's anniversary is January 1 so it's easy to remember :) -------- TITLE: NI Eagles fall to third in Austin City League AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 2/19/2003 8:18:00 PM ----- BODY: This past Sunday, we (NI Eagles) lost in a very tight match against the Land Sharks in the Austin City League. This puts us in third place, with still quite a few games to go. We still have a chance to win the league and to be promoted to the next division. I'll keep you updated. -------- TITLE: STOMP is in town AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 8:21:00 AM ----- BODY: If you've never heard of STOMP, you should check them out. They are a a group of performers/percusionists whose show is really good. I really recommend them. We got very lucky too, as we just went to the theater to buy the cheapest tickets on the spot, but this guy had six of the best tickets from friends that cancelled on him at the last minute. Needless to say, we got really good seats at the lowest price :). I believe STOMP will be performing in Austin until Saturday, so don't miss it. -------- TITLE: Bill Clinton at Austin AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 2/13/2003 8:41:00 AM ----- BODY: Last night I went to a conference by former president Bill Clinton. Very interesting indeed. Besides the fact that the gathering seemed to be a democratic lovefest at first, where people would cheer about anything Clinton had to say that they agreed on, it got better when they let him actually speak. Very interesting opinions on North Korea (they are what worries him the most), Iraq (10 years of U.N. resolutions that the U.S. only wants to enforce), the Middle East (Arafat made a grave, grave mistake by rejecting the peace proposal in 98), Yitzhak Rabin (the man I've loved the most in my life), Colombia, the economy, Al Qaeda and terrorism, his newly recovered personal life and other themes. It was very interesting to listen to an ex-president talk to you about so many themes, specially one that talks to you like you're not six years old. What I found to be the most interesting, is his view of the world as a ver interdependent place where no one can escape anyone nor ignore anyone anymore. I believe this can be applied to many things, one of them is solving the Arab-Israeli conflict. No one is going away, after all. -------- TITLE: Argentina 1-0 Mexico AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 2/05/2003 10:04:00 AM ----- BODY: The Lavolpe era of the Mexican soccer national team started last night with a loss against the sub-23 Argentinian national team. The game was ok, it's too bad that Arellano got his knee injured and couldn't play. I also think that Borghetti could have helped but instead Olalde played. The referee was terrible too. The next match is, I believe, against Colombia. -------- TITLE: Elections in Israel AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 1/28/2003 12:53:00 PM ----- BODY: Low voter turnout, overwhelming advantage in polls for Likud's candidate Ariel Sharon and an ongoing war in the territories are the background of today's elections. In one, maybe two hours we should have the results. -------- TITLE: Marcos.Kirsch.com.mx is online! (again) AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 1/26/2003 3:04:00 PM ----- BODY: Well, it's been a bumpy ride, but I finally decided to use my own simple php-based blog system. This look I'm introducing today is probably very close to the final one. I will now try to post more often. Update: funny, I've backed away from using my own php thing -------- TITLE: Super Sunday AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 3:06:00 AM ----- BODY: Today is the Super Bowl. It starts in less than an hour. I'm not a big football fan, but it must be noted however that Monterrey beat the Pumas in Ciudad Universitaria 3-2 in the Mexican Soccer League. That makes me happy:).
As for the Superbowl, we'll see how it goes... -------- TITLE: Is Hugo Chavez a Mac user? AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 1/06/2003 10:44:00 PM ----- BODY: Check out this link: http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/4888423.htm. A couple of DJs made a prank call to the president of Venezulea Hugo Chavez. During the conversation Chavez said something about "it all happening on Tuesday". Well, unless Hugo Chavez is a Mac user (tomorrow is Steve Job's Keynote at MacWorld San Francisco 2003) venezuelans are in for something tomorrow. No more political commentary for now. -------- TITLE: National Lampoon's San Antonio Vacation AUTHOR: Kirsch DATE: 1/01/2003 4:39:00 PM ----- BODY: Saturday night I drove to San Antonio to meet with my uncles David, Ruthy, Rujele, Isi and my cousins Jacobo, Rachelle, Joseph, Taly, Julieta, Rebeca, Rafa, Jacobo, Karen, Eduardo and Alex (phew)... We went to Sea World yesterday. It took 1 hour and 20 minutes from the gate to the first rollercoaster, it's hard to move so many people around. Nice to see them all, it's been over two years since I saw some of them. --------
